Getting to Valdez

Valdez is located east of Anchorage and is the northeastern most port of Prince William Sound. Originially a staging ground and base of operations for gold mining in the Yukon and then more recently centered around the Trans- Alaska Oil Pipeline, Valdez now enjoys a more modern reputation as a veritable Nirvana in the arena of big mountain extreme skiing since the early 90's when the World Extreme Skiing finals recognized the area for having some of the most impressive helicopter accessible terrain in the world.

Flying is the quickest and most direct way to get to Valdez. Commercial flights fly into Anchorage from the lower 48 states on multiple carriers and a smaller shorter transfer flight will take you the remaining 122 air miles (3O5 highway miles or a 6 hour drive) to Valdez. You can also consider a private plane, driving, ground transfers from Anchorage, or the Alaska State Ferry. There are also some creative combinations of these methods available. There is no train or rail service to Valdez however.

Most people choose to fly commercialy on the way to their Valdez, Alaska heliskiing experience. The Vacation Group can set up your flights or alternative transportation to Valdez based on your needs. Sometimes due to flight schedules you will experience a layover in Anchorage. We can recommend and book a hotel room for your brief exploration of this fun and awesome city in this event.
