Arapahoe Basin (A-Basin) is the epitome of Colorado's laid back reputation with a twist of tough terrain and entertaining events. Boasting one of the longest seasons in North America, A-Basin sometimes opens in October and attempts to offer good snow until the Fourth of July. An immortal winter giant, the mountain stands tall with a summit elevation of 13,050 feet, blanketed in fresh snow. From the base it invites you, calm and silent. A-Basin has over sixty trails expertly carved through its depths and five chairlifts. When the tourist season hits its peak, A-Basin is the secret spot that locals cherish. Since 1946 the best skiers in the world have been drawn to this very unique alpine cirque high on the Continental Divide for the slopes and snow. Open bowls above timberline make this the gathering place for the advanced skier. But it also provides plenty of fun, forgiving terrain for folks who seek a bit less stimulating adventure. If you're seeking a real challenge, hike to the Upper East Wall and feast your eyes on a beautiful view above and steep chutes below. Yet some of the hot powder spots are a mere traverse over to the Lower East Wall. Stepping up in size is the Mutha' Hucker, Arapahoe's terrain park complete with jumps and rails that bend into everything from rainbows to kinks. The mountain offers a plethora of events for all ages and ski levels each season, from telemark clinics to better your skills to its annual parking lot cookouts and weekend tailgating. Visitors to A-basin stay in nearby Keystone, Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco and Silverthorne.
