On January 11, 1947, Lift 1 on Aspen Mountain officially opened and was named the world's longest chairlift. For 2006-2007, join us in celebrating 60 years of skiing in Aspen!

Rising out of the heart of downtown Aspen and famous for its steeps, bumps and incredible views, Aspen Mountain (also known as Ajax) is exhilarating for skiers and snowboarders alike.

What's new: After two decades of faithful service, the Silver Queen Gondola has received a complete overhaul with, most notably, 147 spacious new Swiss-made cabins which went online in the spring of 2006. These new cabins offer more interior space for up to six passengers, as well as floor-to-ceiling windows so you can soak up the surrounding views before plunging down the slopes.

Location: Within the White River National Forest, the mountain rises up from downtown Aspen
